EC
Welcome to the Balfour Exceptional Children’s Website
The Exceptional Children’s (EC) department uses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study objectives blended with various resources and support to meet each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. Some of these resources included Direct Instruction programs such as Reading Mastery I & II, Reading Mastery Plus III & IV, Corrective Reading, and Touch Math.
Students are served in a variety of ways: co-teaching in their classroom, resource, or both.
How can my child qualify to receive EC services?
*Teacher Assistance Team (TAT): An inter-disciplinary team consisting of administrators, school staff, classroom teachers, special education teachers, and other support service personnel to provide assistance to students who are “at risk” of school failure.
*The parent has the right to be informed that your child is having difficulties in school and to be notified your child is being referred to TAT.
Who do parents call if they need help?
*The Special Education Teacher
*The Principal
*Program Facilitator
*School Psychologist
*Director of Exceptional Children’s Programs
What do I, as a parent, need to do?
*Parents are expected to participate in meetings concerning their child and help in goal development.
How will I, as a parent, know how my child is doing with his IEP goals?
*Progress notes are sent home every 6 weeks with report cards. This keeps you informed of their progress on their IEP goals.
